Our Polar Bear Study Begins!

In writers workshop and theme studies this week we have began our non-fiction writing project in Room 41 around polar bears. This week we began learning about polar bears. We collected our schema or our prior knowledge on polar bears. We all had different schema and different levels of understanding about polar bears. We created a huge list of questions on polar bears. Then on Friday We were able to participate in a Skype call with buggy 1 in Churchill Manitoba. We spoke to researchers and scientists working with Polar Bears International to learn more about polar bears. Every student had the opportunity to ask theses scientists and researchers questions. Students had wonderful questions. Students took notes as they listened. We saw a polar bear walking along the shoreline of Churchill, Manitoba. 

We learned so much and realized that our schema about polar bears had changed after this presentation.
